Human hair wigs typically range from 8 inches to 32 inches, offering everything from short, effortless bobs to waist-length luxury. Most women prefer 12–24 inches because these lengths balance manageability, volume, and versatility.
Below is a quick overview to help you visualise where different lengths usually fall (on straight hair):

- 8 inches - Perfect for a sleek bob or pixie-style unit. Falls just below the chin. Lightweight and easy to maintain and ideal for hot climates or active lifestyles.
- 10 inches - Slightly longer, sitting around the collarbone. Great for asymmetrical bobs or short curls.
- 12 inches - The famous “lob” (long bob) length. Modern, polished, and versatile — works beautifully with beach waves or curls.
- 14 inches - Slightly past the shoulders. Soft waves, spiral curls, and feathered styles look luxurious here.
- 16 inches - Falls around the bust area. Balanced, elegant, and perfect for women who love movement without the heaviness of long hair.
- 18 inches - One of our most requested lengths — falls below the shoulders, flattering for most face shapes. Elegant and easy to style.

🩶 Note: Wavy and curly wigs appear shorter because of the curl pattern. If you love textured styles, we recommend going 2–4 inches longer than your desired length.
Understanding Wig Textures and Length
Not all textures measure the same visually. Here’s what to keep in mind:
- Straight hair: True to length when measured from root to tip.
- Body wave or loose wave: Appears slightly shorter because of its natural curve.
- Deep wave or curly textures: Can appear up to 4 inches shorter. Measure when stretched to confirm true length.
At Amani Hair Couture, our wigs are measured from the crown to the tip of the longest strand, in accordance to the global standard, to ensure consistency and transparency.
How to Measure Your Wig Correctly
To check your wig’s length at home:
- Place your wig on a mannequin head or wear it securely.
- Using a soft measuring tape, start from the crown (top centre) of the wig.
- Pull the hair straight and measure down to the ends of the longest strand.

For curly or wavy wigs, gently stretch the hair before measuring.
This ensures you’re measuring your wig the same way your stylist or supplier does.
How to Choose the Perfect Wig Length
Your ideal wig length depends on your personality, comfort level, and lifestyle.
- If you’re active: Choose shorter lengths (8–14”) that are lightweight and low maintenance.
- If you love versatility: Go for medium lengths (16–18”) that can be styled up or down.
- If you’re all about glam: Choose long to extra-long wigs (20”+). Perfect for events, shoots, and special occasions.

Choosing the Right Cap Size
By default, our wigs are made with a medium cap size however, if your head size is significanlty smaller or larger than this, we suggest you contact us and provide us with your head measurements in order to ensure a better fit for your new wig.
The most important measurements we will need from you is:
1. Circumference (around your head above your ears).
2. Front to nape (from your hairline to the nape of your neck).
5. Ear to ear (across the back of your head).
Here’s a quick guide of the cap size of the average head measurements:
• Small cap: 21–21.5 inches (fits petite heads - XS to S).
• Medium cap: 22–22.5 inches (fits most clients - M).
• Large cap: 23–23.5 inches (for extra comfort or thick natural hair underneath - L).
Send these measurements when ordering a custom Amani unit so we can ensure a comfortable fit. Please note that with every custom cap order, we do add an extra 1-2cm space to leave room for growing hair, measurement errors and unplaited natural hair.
