Money Moves: Financial Empowerment for South African Women (Embracing Your High Value Journey - Part 2)

As a Christian woman myself, striving to become a better, stronger woman of God, I have found myself struggling with beliefs that have been instilled in me from a very young age. For the longest time, I felt somewhat guilty for wanting financial freedom for I was taught that "Money is the route of all evil" (haven't we all?).

As I am maturing, both in age and in my knowledge of who God is and what the Word says, I have learnt this simple truth: God wants His daughters to thrive — not just spiritually, but practically too.

So let’s Talk About God & Money (Yes, we're diving right in!)

Too many Christian women have been taught that desiring financial abundance is greedy, ungodly, or “worldly.”

But let’s clear something up right now:

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” – 1 Timothy 6:10

The verse doesn’t say money itself is evil — it says the love of money (greed, obsession, idolatry) leads to destruction.

There’s a difference between chasing purpose with provision and chasing money for power or status.

God delights in seeing His children thrive:

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” – 3 John 1:2

Being broke doesn’t make you holy. And being wealthy doesn’t make you wicked. It’s all about the heart behind the money.

Section 1: For Women Starting from Rock Bottom

If you’re here, it’s not the end — it’s the beginning of your testimony.

Even when it feels hopeless, remember:

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” – Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)

1. Take Inventory (Be Real)

Ask God to give you clarity and wisdom.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God… and it will be given.” – James 1:5

Start where you are, not where you wish you were. God moves when we move.

2. Find Temporary Income

Humbling yourself to do what needs to be done is not failure — it’s faith in action.

“In all toil there is profit…” – Proverbs 14:23

“She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.” – Proverbs 31:17

God can use your grind, your side hustle, and your small beginning for something greater.

3. Use the Little You Have Wisely

Even Jesus admired stewardship:

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much…” – Luke 16:10

God won’t give more to someone who mismanages the little. This is the season to show you can handle the increase.

4. Build What’s In Your Hands

God asked Moses, “What is that in your hand?” (Exodus 4:2).

You might be sitting on a skill, product, or gift that can sustain you — and bless others.

Section 2: For Working Women With Steady Income

You don’t just have a salary — you have seed. What are you sowing?

1. Budget with Purpose

God is not a God of chaos.

“Let all things be done decently and in order.” – 1 Corinthians 14:40

A budget is simply a plan — and planning is biblical:

“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost…” – Luke 14:28

2. Build an Emergency Fund

Joseph stored up grain during the 7 years of plenty to prepare for the famine (Genesis 41).

You must build in your “plenty” so you’re not panicking during lack.

3. Side Hustle With Integrity

Not all income is good income. Ask God to bless your hustle and keep your heart clean.

“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” – Proverbs 16:3

Side hustling isn’t ungodly — it’s wise. But check your why.

4. Multiply Through Wisdom, Not Greed

You don’t need to chase fast money or shady schemes.

“The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.” – Proverbs 21:5

Section 3: For Students Surviving on NSFAS or Hustles

Just because you’re broke on paper doesn’t mean your future is.

David was a shepherd boy before he became king. Ruth was a gleaner before she was redeemed.

Your story can shift overnight — but your discipline must start now.

1. Budget and Steward Your Stipend

Even R1 650 is still money God has trusted you with.

“He who is faithful in little will be faithful in much.” – Luke 16:10

2. Hustle With Purpose, Not Pressure

Sell, serve, and show up — but don’t get distracted by trying to “look rich”. You’re laying foundation.

3. Learn, Grow, Sow

What you feed your mind now will bear fruit later. Be a good steward of time and knowledge.

“An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.” – Proverbs 18:15

Final Word: God Isn’t Against Wealth. He’s Against Idolatry.

Wanting to build wealth isn’t a sin. Making money your god is.

“You cannot serve both God and money.” – Matthew 6:24

So don’t serve it. Use it. Steward it. Grow it. Sow it. Give it.

But never worship it.

God is not glorified in your lack. He is glorified when you thrive with integrity.

Action Step:

Write your Money & Faith Declaration:

1. I believe I am worthy of financial peace

2. I trust God to provide while I move in wisdom

3. I release fear, lack, and shame, and walk boldly into abundance

Now that we've uncovered the truth about what God's Word says about our finances and worked through building a solid foundation and belief system surrounding financial abundance, we'll dive into each section a little deeper in the next aritcle, Money Moves (Extended).
